Doing a step

Pick up an instrument in the tray (or press its number), then act on the field. Press it again, or Esc, to put it down.
Cut by dragging with a scalpel: a short stroke is a stab, a long one a skin incision. The direction of your drag is the direction of the cut.
Palpate by pressing and holding with the index finger; slide while holding to feel around. What you feel appears beside your finger.
Depth: after a stab, and for the bougie and the tube, hold Advance in the depth view and press Stop here. The depth view is a slice of the same 3D model that decides the result.
Instruments already in the patient: drag the scalpel handle in a quarter-circle to rotate the blade, or straight to pull it; click an instrument to remove it.
Side of the table: click the strip at either edge of the field.

Modes

Learn — each step’s instruction and the reason for it are shown. Mistakes are explained and undone; a critical mistake is flagged as one that would end the attempt.
Perform and Identify arrive in version 0.2: no prompts and a running physiological clock, and an anatomy quiz on the field.

The model

The neck is a 3D model in millimetres. The illustrated field is drawn from its positions; the depth view, palpation and every depth decision come straight from it.
The normal neck has 10 mm of tissue over the cricothyroid membrane and it can be felt; the obese neck has 25 mm and it cannot.
